About This Game
Gin Rummy is a two-player card game where the goal is to form your hand into melds — sets of three or four same-rank cards, or runs of three or more consecutive same-suit cards. Any cards not part of a meld are deadwood, and you want to minimize your deadwood count. When your deadwood totals 10 or less, you can knock to end the hand; if your deadwood is zero, that's gin.
Each turn, you draw a card from the stock or the discard pile, then discard one card. The strategy lies in reading what your opponent picks up and discards to deduce their hand, while building your own melds and keeping your options flexible. Games are played to a target score across multiple hands.
How to Play
- You and the AI each receive 10 cards
- On your turn, draw from the stock pile or the discard pile
- Arrange your hand into melds (sets of same rank or runs of same suit)
- Discard one card to end your turn
- Knock when your unmelded cards (deadwood) total 10 or less
- Go Gin for bonus points by melding your entire hand with zero deadwood
Tips & Strategy
Keep flexible cards that can form multiple melds — middle cards (5-9) are most versatile
Watch what your opponent picks from the discard pile to deduce their hand
Don't hold high deadwood cards too long — they cost you if your opponent knocks first
Going Gin gives a 25-point bonus. Hold out for it if you're close
